Phyllida Barlow exhibition

Updated: May 5

Over the weekend I visited the Phyllida Barlow exhibition at the Tate Modern.

  • I really liked her drawings and how they had been translated into 3D sculptures.

  • Also her use of 'scrap' materials - reusing old things and repurposing.

  • intuitive making - deliberate 'carelessness' in how she makes, trusts the process and knows the end result she wants, so keeps adding to it until she's satisfied its finished.

  • 'messiness' - unkempt look about her work. almost seems to be decaying, really like this concept of things falling apart. her bright colours and sense of decay remind me of an abandoned playground or fun fair in some dystopian world.
