After considering a variety of materials, I decided to use raffia. I really like the organic feel and its like the material traditional baskets are often made from. Although I liked the finish of the raffia, after initially using a natural/beige I wanted to use a more vibrant colour. Weaving is nearly always brightly coloured and Mayan weaving in particular often features hot pinks and bright blues and yellows. When considering what colour would work best with my vessel, I chose a bright pink as through my research this was one of the most reoccurring colours in Mayan weaving, along with blue (which is the tone of my chosen glaze).
